Update on Baligueda's business

Baligueda took a loan to buy the ingredients for the fruit juices and ices that she makes; pineapples and other fruits, sugar and moulds. She also put some towards the purchases of her four fridges. She sells the juices and lollies to customers directly and also sells ice blocks to people who want to transport frozen goods to the nearby town of Anie. Baligueda’s biggest expense is the repair of her fridges which can often go wrong (I assume that fridges have to work extra hard to keep cold in this hot climate). Sugar has risen in price recently and is becoming more expensive as well. When asked about her hopes for the future Baligueda said she would like to open a proper shop from her home. Baligueda’s husband has a good job with an electricty company and his salary pays for most of their household expenses. However, having a business where she owns her own money gives her independence and the profits from her business go to help her mother and father with their living expenses as well as buying additional school supplies for her young son. Tracey Horner, March 2012.
