Loan description:

Ablawa Apoubi is 44 years old and married with four children. They are aged between 20 and 12 and all are in full time education. Her husband manages a store which sells radios and televisions. Ablawa sells locally made soap. The bars are firm, quite large and produce abundant foam. They are also popular because they are cheap. Ablawa has had this business for about three years. Before, she used to sell kitchen and cooking utensils. She has already received and repaid a loan of 150,000 West African francs from the microfinance organisation WAGES. Now she has applied for another larger loan of 250,000 francs for use as working capital. She intends to repay the loan over 12 months. Her plans in the medium term are to open a small retail shop from which she can sell the soap, instead of having to sell it from a stall in the market. She also wants to renovate her home.
