Hoeurng Un is 41 years old and married with three children, aged between 24 and 17. The elder two have jobs and work while the youngest son is still in full time education. Hoeurng and her husband, Pert Pheap who is 45, live in Sdey village which is in Ek Phnom district in Battambang province. Hoeurng has been a good member of Ek Phnom Credit Union since 1999. Hoeurng and her husband are farmers. They own five hectares of rice paddy. The yield is about two tonnes per hectare. Aside from growing rice, Hoeurng has also been growing mushrooms from her home for the past year. When her business is particularly busy, Hoeurng takes on temporary employees from her village. Hoeurng can harvest up to 20 kilograms of mushrooms a day and she sells these at Prek Tachreng market. Hoeurng has applied for a loan in order to buy diesel, fertiliser, insecticide and pay for harvest costs. Hoeurng intends to repay the loan over three months. Hoeurng's plans for the future include raising both pigs and ducks from next year.
