Vanda

Loan description:

Vanda Yong is 38 years old and a rice farmer. She produces rice on around three hectares of land and her crops yield around three tonnes or rice per hectare. Vanda is able to farm on her land twice a year during both the wet and the dry seasons, which provides a great source of income for her household. However, when she is not farming she sells fish in the local market and she can earn around $15 a day doing this. To ensure the success of her farming activities this season, Vanda has applied for an eighteen month loan in order to cover some of her farming costs including purchasing fertilizer, insecticide, weed killer and diesel for her tractor. A part of the loan will also be used to purchase a water pump and pipe so she can get adequate water to her land. Vanda will use the majority of her income to cover the cost of sending her children to school as well as any other daily expenses. Vanda aims to save some of her income and purchase more farming land in the future.
