Sor Sern is 34 years old. Together with her husband she farms around three hectares of rice paddy. Sor and her husband are able to produce both dry and wet season rice on their land, which means they are generally able to produce high yields, on average around three tonnes per hectare. Aside from rice farming, Sor's husband also works in construction. He can earn around $6 a day doing this work. To ensure they farm on time and reduce their costs they have decided to take out an eighteen month loan in order to purchase a walking tractor to help with operations on their farm. They aim to purchase more farming land in the future so they can increase their profits.
