Loan description:
Yen Yon is 36 years old. Her and her husband rent around ten hectares of rice paddy. On three of the ten hectares they grow dry season rice, which they are able to produce twice a year since it only takes three months to cultivate and on the rest they produce wet season rice. The yield from their farming activities is around three tonnes per hectare and the renting cost is around $125 per hectare. When they are not farming, her husband also works for other people picking maize or chopping cassava. He can earn around $5 a day doing this work. To continue their own farming activities while their working capital is limited they have decided to ask for an eighteen month loan in order to cover the cost of renting their land and to purchase agricultural inputs such as diesel for their tractor, good quality rice seeds, fertiliser, insecticide and weed killer. They aim to expand their pig rearing business, which they run from their home, next year.
