José Andrés Imaicela Sarango is 52 and married with three adult children, the elder two are married and the youngest is 19 and still studying. Don José has a range of income generating activities - he is a small-scale farmer, makes and sells bricks and is also a carpenter mainly manufacturing household furniture. His father was also a carpenter and he has had his own workshop for around twenty years. He owns his own house and vehicle which he uses to deliver the finished items to customers. He requested a loan in order to buy new tools and also timber in bulk - he has a number of pending orders and he only gets paid when he delivers the items. The loan is for nine months.
