Toeurt Ngen is 52 years old and married to Mrs. Vanna, who is shown in the photograph. They have three children, who are aged between 9 and 16 years old, and are all at school. They live in a village in the Sangke district of Battambang province. They farm rice on around four hectares and produce around three tonnes per hectare. Aside from this rice farming they also run a general store from their home and they have been doing this for the past nine years. From their store they sell all kinds of products including salt, sugar, cooking oil, chili sauce, snacks, ice, vegetables and pork. Every three days they need to restock their store by going to Battambang town, which is around 20 kilometres away from their home. They can earn around $50 a day from their store. As their working capital is currently limited they have applied for a twelve month loan in order to purchase new stock in bulk so they do not need to go to the town so frequently and they can get a better price for their products.
