Benjamin Pangilinan 57 years old and has four children aged 24 to 38. The family lives in Nueva Ecija province. His 57 year old wife, Perpetua, runs a small rolling store at their place while Benjamin has been growing rice on a small hectare of land he owns for the past 5 years. Two close relatives assist him in his work. He is requesting a loan of $788 (30,000 Philippine pesos) from the microfinance organisation Alalay sa Kaunlaran to purchase additional fertilisers and has promised to repay this over a five month period. He hopes to help his children to have their own businesses someday.
