Nhanh Soun is 47 years old and married to Ms. Hieng (indicated in the photograph). They have one daughter who is 17 years old and still lives with them since she is still at school. They live in a village in the Sangke district of Battambang province. They have two hectares of farming land on which they produce wet season rice. They produce only two tonnes per hectare. To earn extra income for their household they have another plot of land, around two and a half hectares, on which they produce maize. As their working capital is limited they have applied for a ten month loan in order to cover the costs of their maize farming such as buying seeds, diesel for their tractor, insecticide, weed killer and to help pay for additional labour.
