Loan description:
Sangry Hen is 28 years and married with two daughters who are seven and nine years old. Both of her daughters are at school. They live in a village in Thmor Korl district, which is in Battambang province. Shangry and her husband farm wet season rice on around five hectares which yields around two tonnes per hectare only. Producing wet season rice takes a long time, around six months, and they only just produce enough to make a small profit. To earn more from this business they have decided to rent another plot of land, around five hectares more, to produce dry season rice, which takes only three months to cultivate. As their working capital is limited they have applied for a sixteen month loan in order to cover their renting costs, ploughing costs and harvesting costs. They will also use this loan to buy diesel for their water pump, insecticide and commercial fertilizer. The renting cost is around $250 per hectare. The income from their rice farming will be spent preparing their land for the next farming season and on their daily expenses.
