Loan description:
Elvia Rodríguez Jaramillo is 22 and married with two young children. She lives in the district of El Fundo in the town of Catamayo an area that is quite well known for raising both chickens and pigs. Her day starts early when she collects feed for the animals. After giving feed she cleans the areas where they are housed. The better they live and are are fed, Elvia believes, the better the quality of the meat. Her husband is a policeman. She requested a loan in order to buy one piglet and 24 young chickens which she will sell at Carnival time in around 5-6 weeks when there are several days holiday and demand for meat is high. She will use most of the loan however to improve the areas where the animals are housed. They need to have enough room to move freely but also to be protected from other wild animals.
