Loan description:
Loeurb Dy is 40 years old and a mother with three children. Her children are aged between four and ten years and her two older children study at the local government school. They live in Ek Phnom district in Battambang province. Loeurb and her husband are farmers and have been farming for the past eight years. At the moment they farm four hectares of rice paddy. When farming this rice they only need to wait two months before they can harvest and sell their crops. Their paddies provide them with a yield of around three tonnes per hectare and they stock one tonne of this for their own consumption and sell any surplus out to a local miller. Loeurb and her husband also have another plot of land on which they grow green beans. They generally pick the beans in March every year. However, to farm regularly year on year while their source of funds is limited, they decided to take out a loan in order to cover their farming costs such as buy diesel for their tractor, seeds, insecticide, weed killer and some commercial fertiliser and to pay for labour costs. They plan to repay this loan over twelve months.
Loan added: 1 December 2012
