Agbale is 43, married and mother of 9 children, 5 of them at school. She has been in business for 20 years, selling bags of gari (cassava flour), bags of rice, containers of oil and bags of maize, a product with high demand in the villages. She sells these and other products, but her main activity is the production of gari. Agbale buys cassava in the fields of her village and at the market of Porto novo. She sells her many products at the market of Porto-novo, mainly with the help of her sister Hingannan. In addition to her sister she employs 4 people more and she pays them according to their sales. She has been a member of the microfinance institution ACFB for several years and has previously requested and repaid several loans. She is now requesting a loan to buy 5 bags with 50 kg of rice each, 8 bags of 50 kg of maize each and a enough cassava to process it into gari and meet her customers’ needs. With the profit, Agbale intends to help her husband to pay school fees but also to keep on reinvesting in the business.
