Albertine is 50 years old. She is a widow and mother of 3 children. Albertine used to sell smoked fish, but she stopped doing this due to poor sales. For nearly twenty years, Albertine has been growing and selling maize and cassava in a plot inherited from her husband. To optimize production, she employs 10 people, one of her (adult) children also works in the fields. Part of the crop is sold to wholesale customers and the rest to customers at the village at the Zinvié market. Albertine is very proud of her achievements because up to now she has managed to satisfy the main needs of her family. She is at present requesting a loan for $ 800. She intends to buy new plots and recruit labour to work in those plots so she can meet the demand from potential clients. The profits obtained from this loan will help to pay for growing bills and hopefully give her family a better quality of life.
