Loan description:
Dalmacio Dicam is a 38 year old man and has three children aged 16, 13 and 10 respectively. His eldest child is now in college while his other two children attend a local elementary school in Gen.Tinio in Nueva Ecija province. His wife Nelie is 39 years old and runs a small grocery store business. Five years ago, Dalmacio was engaged in growing fruit and vegetables. After that, he decided to raise hogs in a vacant lot near their residence. He has managed to establish a pen for the hogs and has started to raise a few. His wife regularly feeds the animals and cleans the pens to keep them healthy. The number of hogs he raises is limited, because he needs additional pens to accommodate more animals. Dalmacio ensures his hogs are never kept in cramped conditions since he knows this will affect their health. All his fully-grown hogs are then sold to dealers in the public market. The income from his wife’s grocery store is indispensable because their income from their hog-raising businesss is neither stable nor sufficient at the moment.Dalmacio has been a member of the microfinance organisation Alalay sa Kaunlaran for three years. He currently uses the loan services of this institution in addition to its savings and micro-insurance services. He has recently received his seventh loan which she has promised to repay over a five month period. He plans to utilise this loan to purchase larger amounts of feed for the hogs and for cleaning equipment for the pens. He hopes to increase his income and establish additional pens to raise new hogs. He hopes to save a significant amount of his income to pay for the education of his children.
