Verónica Cacilda Paladines Córdova is 31 and has three children aged 13, 11 and 6 with her partner. Doña Verónica lives in the district of Trapichillo Alto near the town of Catamayo. She owns her own house. All her children are studying at school. Her husband is a bricklayer. During the mornings Doña Verónica works in the public municipal toilets selling toilet paper. However, she also has her own business raising chickens from home and then selling them for their meat. The income she earns is important in helping to buy food for the family and paying for the children's school expenses. She has requested a loan in order to buy more chicks (the chicks that are a few days old cost $1 each) and feed in bulk for the birds. She will sell some of the chickens she already has in December just before Christmas when the price is quite high.
