Refida Vatric is 35 and married with two children who both attend primary school. She lives with her family in the capital Sarajevo and since 1999 has together with her husband run a small shop selling mainly food and drinks.The business covers all their household expenses and they are happy that they are economically independent. Additionally, they own some land outside Sarajevo where they grow vegetables. They keep enough for their own needs and sell the surplus vegetables at the local market. Refida has already received and repaid one loan from the microcredit foundation 'Women for Women International' and applied for a second in order to buy extra stock for her shop. She intends to repay the loan over six months.
