Edna

Loan description:

Edna Pronto lives in the neighbourhood of Davil-Davilan in the town of Dingalan in Aurora province. She has five children who are aged 26, 24, 22, 21 and 12 respectively. Her youngest is still studying in primary school and she also has a 7 year old grandson. Her husband Joselito drives a motor-cab as a taxi. Edna manages a small fruit and vegetable stall near her home. Among the items she sells are squash, bananas, tomatoes and bitter gourds. Customers tend to be neighbours and others from her local community who would rather not travel to the town centre. Her stall is quite basic, mainly made from wood, but she still manages to arrange all the items in an attractive manner. She buys her stock from a local wholesaler and sells with a small mark-up. She uses a small set of weighing scales to determine the price of the items. Edna has sought a loan from the microfinance organisation Alalay sa Kaunlaran in order to use as working capital buying new stock as and when necessary. She has been a member of the institution for one year and has already repaid one short-term loan.
