Ecuador
Loan description:
Carmen Celinda Peña is 46 and has four children. She is from Catamayo in southern Ecuador. She used to have a shop selling basic foods and her husband worked as a bricklayer. However, her husband migrated wot work in Spain. He returned after eight years in Europe when the economic situation deteriorated there. They did though manage to buy a home with their savings. Her husband now works as a private security guard while Dona Carmen looks after their children and has a business making and selling pies and pasties, the latter are known as 'empanadas'. She says the business is quite profitable and also convenient because it allows her to attend to various household chores as well at the same time as the business is based at home. Dona Carmen requested a loan in order to buy various equipment, including trays, bowls, pots and saucepans, as well as cooking supplies and ingredients in bulk.
