Loan description:
Bunthoeurn Koe is 45 years old and married with five children. His children are aged between 23 and 6 years old and his four younger children are at school and his oldest child has his own job. Bunthoeurn and his family live in Thmey village, which is in Sangke district, Battambang province. Bunthoeurn and his wife have been farmers for the past 17 years and now cultivate three hectares of rice paddy. The yield from their farm provides them with around three tonnes per hectare and they stock two tonnes of this rice for their own consumption and sell any surplus to a local trader. Aside from farming this rice they also grow vegetables such as bitter melon and cucumbers. They don’t need to sell these vegetables at the market themselves as a buyer buys from them in bulk from their home. To create a good source of water for his vegetables, Bunthoerun needs to dig a pond so he can get enough water to water his vegetables during the dry season. Furthermore, a part of his loan will also be used to buy another water pump. He promises to repay this loan over a period of ten months.
