Loan description:
Saroeurn But is 53 years old and married with six children. His children are aged between seven and 26 years old. His three eldest children have their own jobs and his two youngest children are still studying at the local state school. Saroeurn and his family live in Cheng village in Battambang province. Saroeurn and his wife, Sophan Phat, are farmers and have been farming four hectares of land for almost seven years. They grow maize on three hectares and use one hectare to grow rice. The yield they get from the rice is only for household consumption. They generally grow maize for five months of the year and then sell it in the village. The yield of the maize usually provides them with about five tonnes per hectare. They have sought an eight month loan in order to buy more maize seeds, fertiliser, weed killer and diesel.
