Loan description:
Patricio Benitez is 37 and has three children with his partner. Ever since he was young he has worked in agriculture, primarily as a day labourer. However, in recent years opportunities have become scarce so about five years ago he decided to also start a business raising and selling pigs. He does labouring work when it becomes available but it is irregular. His partner prepares food spices and seasonings which she sells in the town of Catamayo. Through their combined efforts they have managed to build their own home. He requested a loan in order to buy maize and other food in bulk for the pigs. Sometimes he sells the pigs at market, but on occasions he also slaughters the animals and sells the meat himself by kilograms to neighbours and others in his community. It is quite a profitable activity. He hopes that in the future he might begin an additional business such as hiring construction equipment.
