Jocelyn

Loan description:

Jocelyn Alilay is 38 years old and married with one daughter aged 18 who studies at college. Her family live in the neighbourhood of Blasud which is situated in the town of San Isidro, Leyte province. Jocelyn and her husband, Rolando, are farmers and they have a smallholding. Jocelyn focuses on planting and growing various vegetables while her husband takes the responsibility for cultivating coconuts. They have earned their livelihoods from farming for around twenty years. However, recently with their savings they established a small grocery store near their home as well. It sells detergent soaps, bread and various food snacks. This provides them with income even during the dead period when they have to wait for the harvest to come in. If the farming becomes more profitable they have plans to hire day labourers to help out. The microfinance organisation Omaganhan Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative has approved Jocelyn's application for a short-term loan. She has over the years received many short-term loans since she received her first loan in 2004. She will invest the loan in both the farm and her grocery shop buying stock and farming inputs.
