Dana Kenjic is 53 years old and divorced. She lives with her daughter in the capital Sarajevo. Her daughter goes to secondary school. Dana works as nurse, taking care of the elderly. Dana wants to earn a little more for herself and her daughter. She owns some land and a small house she rebuilt recently near the town of Trnovo an hour to the south of Sarajevo. She intends to plough the land and grow vegetables there, specifically potatoes, beans, onions, carrot, and even maize. She will sell most of the produce. She applied for her first loan from the microcredit foundation ‘Women for Women International’ in order to buy seeds and prepare the soil ready for sowing. She intends to repay the loan over 15 months.
