Loan description:
Sitha Heang is 30 years old and married with one son, who is aged nine years old and attends the local school. Sitha and his wife live in Thoul Lvieng village, which is in Sangke district, Battambang province. Sitha is a farmer and farms one and a half hectares of rice paddy. The yield from this gives him around three tonnes per hectare and he stocks one tonne for his family's consumption and sells the remainder to a local miller. To increase the amount of rice Sitha can sell, he has decided to rent another three hectares of rice paddy from villagers. As his source of cash funds is currently limited, he has decided to take out a loan now to cover the renting costs and pay this back using his increased profits. Sitha expects to pay this loan back over eight months.
