Loan description:
Sok Hem is 57 years old and married with nine children. His children are aged between 40 and 7 years old. His five elder children are married and live separately and his four younger children still live with him. His two youngest daughters are still studying at the local school. Sok and his family live in Tros village, which is in Thmor Korl district, Battambang province. Sok and his wife, Hoeurt Hoeurn, are farmers and have been farming since they were young adults. They presently farm three hectares of rice paddy which is located one kilometre away from their home. The yield provides them with about four tonnes per hectare as their farm is very close to the irrigation system. They keep two tonnes of this rice for their family's personal consumption and sell the remainder to a local trader. To continue successfully farming rice every year, they have applied for a loan to buy commercial fertiliser, insecticide, diesel for their water pump and to buy good quality seeds. They plan to repay their loan over ten months. They plan to buy a small hand tractor to help with operations next year.
