Loan description:
Dy Chan is 54 years old and married with eight children aged between 14 and 32. All except the youngest are working. The youngest is still in school. They live in Boskhnor village, Choeng Meanchey commune in Banon district in Battambang province. Dy is a farmer and her husband, Choeurm Houn, is a civil servant. They own six hectares of rice paddy located near their home. The rice yield is around three tonnes per hectare. They keep around three tonnes for their own household consumption. During the dry season they grow maize. They own their own hand tractor which means it is cheaper to plough their land. To ensure they have a good yield they have sought a six month loan in order to buy fertiliser, insecticide and diesel for the tractor. Their future plans include digging another pond to farm fish (the photograph shows Choeurm).
