Loan description:
Sokhom E is 43 years old and married with three children aged 22, 20 and 18 respectively. They live in Sdey Krorm village in Prek Loung commune which is in Battambang province. Sokhom has been a member of the Chrey Credit Union for more than ten years. Sokhom has sold vegetables for the past ten years while her husband, Sam Chheng, has been a policeman for over 15 years. Sokhom sells at the Boeng Chhouk market. Usually in the afternoons, Sokhom travels from one village to another on her motorbike to buy vegetables, including bananas, ripe coconuts, gourds and cucumbers. She wakes up very early each morning, around 2 am to travel to the market which is around six kilometres from her home and sell the vegetables in bulk that she bought on the previous day. She returns home at 4 a.m each day to sleep. Sokhom also farms 2,400 square meters of rice paddy and she keeps all of her rice and anything else she grows for the family's own consumption. Sokhom sought a loan from the credit union in order to use as working capital to buy a greater stock of vegetables for sale. She intends to repay the loan over six months. Sokhom wants her youngest daughter to continue to study at college as her neighbour’s children have done.
