Vietnam
Tu is 64, married, and the father of two adult children, both of whom have their own families. He and his wife live in an older, single-story house in a coastal village in Thanh Hoa Province.
Tu's wife operates a small seafood stall at a nearby market. He was formerly a dedicated fisherman, spending years on the sea in a difficult and often perilous occupation. Due to his advancing age, he no longer fishes regularly, which has led to a reduction in his income. Instead, he now undertakes various manual labour jobs in the area. Leveraging the fresh seafood from his wife's stall, Tu has proactively taken on the role of a delivery driver, transporting seafood directly to customers, including restaurants and eateries, using his motorbike. This personalized delivery method has found great success from his commercial clients.
Consequently, he wishes to purchase additional seafood to meet the high demand expected during the upcoming year-end and Lunar New Year holidays, but a lack of capital presents a major constraint. Tu has now applied for his first loan from Thanh Hoa MFI, our local development partner in Vietnam, to acquire 300 kg of oysters, 100 kg of clams, and 270 kg of squid for resale. He hopes that this fresh, competitively-priced inventory will attract more customers both locally and from neighbouring provinces, enabling him to significantly expand his family's business operations.
