Ecuador
Please note: Due to the current economic and social instability in Ecuador, the country is experiencing record levels of regional displacement and migration. While this is not a pattern we are seeing across the country, it is worth noting that during this time your loans in Ecuador may be at more risk of delay or non-repayment.
Bartolomé, aged 58, is married and lives with his wife in the Zamore-Chinchipe province. His wife, Jacinta, is also involved in productive activities, complementing the household’s income. He currently has no dependants, as all his children are independent.
Bartolomé's work is focused on livestock farming. Around 2015, Bartolomé started his small cattle-breeding enterprise, aimed both at dairy production and at the sale of bulls for meat consumption. Through constant work and accumulated experience, he has managed to maintain his herd and participate in the local market.
Bartolomé’s household receives a monthly income of around £532 from day-labour work. Household expenses, including food and the payment of utilities, amount to approximately £385 per month. His livestock microenterprise generates an income of about £275 per month, while its operating costs are approximately £20. This leaves an estimated profit of around £250 from livestock activity. Bartolomé has been able to cover the household’s basic needs and, at the same time, sustain and gradually grow his productive activity.
Over the years, one of Bartolomé’s main achievements has been raising his children, providing them with an education and seeing them become independent individuals who contribute positively to society.
With regard to livestock farming, Bartolomé recognises that his main challenges are fluctuating weather conditions. In the rainy season, the grass is slow to grow and, at times, the cattle suffer from illnesses. Bartolomé has applied for a loan that will be used specifically to purchase heifers, with the aim of increasing the number of head of cattle, improving milk production and strengthening the supply of animals for meat.
Bartolomé will use the loan responsibly and make timely repayment in six quarterly instalments.
